{new story} Adore Me, and Rambly Author’s Note

I am excited to announce that the first chapter of Adore Me, the Edward point of view to Adore, Adore, has been posted! Okay, this actually happened a month ago, but I kind of forgot to post about it here. This chapter covers the same time frame of the first chapter of Adore, Adore, and was written for Project Team Beta’s 2012 Back to School Fundraiser. Read more about that here.

Originally, I never intended to revisit this story from EPOV. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do it; it was because I knew getting into Adoreward’s head space would be really difficult for me. And it was. But I also came to the realization that I really, really wanted to write the entire story from his POV. During every single second of AA, I know what Edward is doing and what’s going on in his head, so why not share it?

But I’m not writing this because I love the story so much that I want to write it twice. I really feel like this story is a good candidate for being retold in another POV. (Is this kind of like how every parent thinks their kid is the best at art/soccer/singing/school/being cute/etc.?)

Here’s why:

AA is a shorter story, told in a condensed period of time—less than 3 months when it’s all said and done. Edward is a complex character (my Edward is the most bestest complex characters of all the complex characters *eyerolls self*). Seeing as the original story is written from BPOV, there are questions about Edward that won’t get answered. It’s not realistic. She isn’t going to get to know everything about him in the span of 3 months, and as much as people want to know about his past relationships, Carlisle, Rosalie, what he ate for breakfast, etc., it’s not relevant to the story.

What better way to share all of Edward’s inner workings than giving him his own spotlight?

Having read overlapping POVs, both in single and companion stories, I think I know the key to making it fresh and exciting. After all, I don’t want to write the same story twice, so why would you want to read the same story twice?

While AM will cover most of Edward and Bella’s time together, there will be a couple new interactions that were alluded to between Chapters 2 and 3 of AA and plenty of Edward doing his own thing. Don’t worry. I will do my best to keep the word count of the stories similar. No one wants to read a 50k story, and then another 100k of the same regurgitated thing.

Both AA and AM will stand independently. So rather than a companion piece, AM will make perfect sense on its own. I would still prefer people read AA first because that’s how I intended it, but they won’t have to. What this also means is that if you read one, you won’t feel like you have to read the other in order for it to make sense.

As I’m outlining the final chapters of AA, I’m constantly keeping AM in mind. It’s a fine line to withhold enough information so the stories aren’t redundant while giving readers enough information so they aren’t left in the dark. This is my first time writing something like this, and I hope I can pull it off.

My plan for Adore Me is to finish writing most of it before posting to FFn. Let’s face it, it’s gonna be a while.  Until then, read the first chapter (or don’t), and let me know what you think!

Well I for one am super excited to be getting into Adoreward’s head, I don’t think it will be redundant at all. There have been so many times in that story that I was wondering “What is this boy thinking?” And I totally agree your Edward is the most bestest complex characters of all the complex characters, lol!

Thanks for continuing on with the story, I can’t wait to read it :)

So, ooza, I wanted to say that I am extremely happy that you are planning to write Adore Me as a companion piece to Adore, Adore, but yet not a regurgitation of Adore, Adore. I actually was very surprised when I received the Chapter One of Adore Me in March and read it. It certainly opened my eyes to see that indeed Edward was a very complex and complicated individual which one could not exactly ascertain from reading Chapter 1 of Adore, Adore. It literally did fill in the blanks, and actually forced me to see Edward in a totally different light. As told in Bella’s POV, Edward seemed shallow, demanding, controlling, and somewhat selfish; however, by reading Adore Me, he presented as not to be that way at all.

This rather reminds me of SM’s version of Twilight in Edward’s POV as told in Midnight Sun. She actually, in my opinion only, showcased Edward as the in depth, complicated, multi-faceted individual than he appeared in Twilight. In Midnight Sun, it certainly was not a retelling of Twilight, but actually revealed to the readers why particular scenes in the book were as they were. By having Edward’s perspective, the reader could more fully understand why Edward said and did some of the things that transpired.

So, I can totally understand, and I definitely look forward to better understanding why Edward said and did some of the things in as were presented in Adore, Adore. Absolutely, Midnight Sun could stand as a singular book, but yet it simply added to the enjoyment as being a companion piece to Twilight. I have all faith that Adore Me, will definitely be able to be read as a separate fanfiction, but again, it will add to the enjoyment of Adore, Adore, by your giving us a peek into Edward’s motivations.

Can not wait to read the completed Adore Me.

By the way, I absolutely loved Chapter 9 of Adore, Adore.
