{story rec} Fic This Gif One-Shot Recs
As most of you probably know from my previous blog post and #judgingyou tweets, I had the privileged of being a judge for the Fic This Gif anonymous contest, hosted by Jadalulu.
It was tough work! There were some great stories. I had no problem #judgingyou; the hard part was picking stories for the special category awards, and of course, my favorite.
As you may know, the story I chose as my favorite was How a Theory Becomes a Law by BellaFlan. Here is my official statement or whatever:
This was a very tough choice for me because there were a few stories that I absolutely loved. I chose How a Theory Becomes a Law because it captured me from the very beginning. I absolutely loved Bella and her inner musings as she tried to solve the mystery of whether Edward was a vampire. The storyline was refreshing, had a unique take on the characters, and was filled with nerdy references galore. It actually made me LOL out loud, which is pretty rare.
Go read it, because it’s awesome. I am going to stalk all BellaFlan’s other stories now. But before I do, I am going to give some love to the stories I wanted to choose but couldn’t because ZOMG JADA ONLY LET ME PICK ONE!
Seriously, though, this was a hard decision. I couldn’t even narrow the decision down to two stories. There were five. And here they are (listed in alphabetical order by story title):
The Babysitter by Plummy
I really didn’t know what to expect after reading the summary, but it was oh so cute! The swoon factor was through the roof, the UST was fantastic, and the ending was just adorbs. Normally cuteness doesn’t do it for me, so when it does, I know it’s good. This is a protective Edward in a way I’ve never seen him. And the character interaction is just so realistic and entertaining!
The Girl Who Jumped by aWhiteBlankPage
The angst in this story was unbelievable. Not that it was really heavy; it was just perfect. I could feel the emotions rolling off the characters. And the way the prompt was woven into the entire story was fantastic. Oh, and the lemon? omgggg, I die.
Saving Up by Purelyamuse
This was another story that made me swoon. Hard. Because when that pivotal eye opening moment came, it smacked me in the face so I hard I could feel it. The thing about this story that sucked me in was that it really hit home in a lot of ways, so I felt a strong connection to the characters. I would have hugged my husband if we weren’t 1,900 miles away.
Until We Bleed by Miss Winkles
Angry sex. Do I need to say more? No, but I will anyway. Edward is Bella’s lazy, COD playing, good for nothing ex. Do I love me some OOC Edward? Yes, I do. The internal dialog is believable, and I felt every single emotion Bella experienced during the course of the story. Bonus points for what Bella did at the end, too.
These are just the tip of the iceberg. There were many great stories in the contest, so go read them. You might find something that tickles your fancy.
