{teaser} Adore, Adore Part 5

“I’m meeting an old friend for dinner tonight.”

By the way he worded the statement, it didn’t sound like the invite was extended to me. It also didn’t sound like his “old friend” was one of his high school football buddies, or whatever it was Edward passed the time doing in his years before being an overbearing jackass—if those years even existed.

“Oh,” I said, chancing another look at him. His expression was stony and unreadable.

“You don’t mind being on your own again, do you?” He briefly met my gaze before dropping his eyes to his coffee cup.

“Nope,” I said in a weak attempt to keep the sharpness from my voice. I didn’t mind being on my own. At least, I didn’t think that was what bothered me. What bothered me was the thought of him double dipping his dick and not giving me the courtesy of a heads up. “What’s her name?”

Edward looked at me again. He frowned, appearing genuinely confused. “Pardon?”

“Your old friend,” I clarified. “What’s her name?”

For a moment, I actually felt silly for saying anything. What he did shouldn’t have been any of my concern. I definitely didn’t have the right to question him about it; certainly he owed me no explanation.

“Are you jealous?” Edward’s tone was playful, yet his expression remained anything but.

“Hardly.” Even as I said it, I knew it was a lie. If Edward picked up on my terrible acting skills, it didn’t show. “Besides, why would I be jealous? It’s not like we’re dating or anything.”

“That’s right.” There was a flash of some emotion on his face, but he recovered too quickly for me to get a grasp on what it was. “I keep forgetting this is strictly business for you.”

Interesting….he says “strictly business for you.” He doesn’t mention himself, makes you wonder if Edward has feelings for her as well.

Yeah….I teaser….I’m jumping up and down…..Happy, Happy Happy (happy part sang to the tune of the conga). Ok, and maybe now I am starting to see that perhaps Edward isn’t a psychopath, but only mildly weird, fetishly controlling, hugely inappropriate, lack luster in the communication department, bizarrely unempathetic……….LOL….maybe he was doing better as the overly shy, momma’s boy on the verge of a psychotic breakdown. Well, he is good looking, rich, can make soup and apparently is great in bed….I guess I can over look the rest. What can I say?…I am hooked on this story! and seriously, who was the chick in the hall?????

I found this little gem in February when I had been searching for something to read. Needless to say, I have read and re-read this Fic; I just love it that much. Those conversations that Bella carries on with herself often reminds me of myself–yeah torn between what society deems as appropriate, and what one finds as appropriate and acceptable.

Things seemed to be humming along quite nicely–Bella trying not to see what she is doing as cheap and taudry. Ha, but leave it to Edward–Mr. D-Bag extradinare to muck it up!! I know if I had been Bella, I would have wanted to scream that he was a concieted, patronizing, SOB! Yeah, well at least Bella showed some restraint. Loved how she turned the tables and cancelled the “rain check”. Seems like Edward is quite worldly and successful, but on the other hand is still operating like a high school Don Juan. LOL.

I could be completely wrong, but I get the feeling that Edward may indeed have feelings for Bella, but is afraid to make that jump from restrained douche to actual caring individual. Possibly if he had had that “talk” that he mentioned before she got sick, these two would not be in this effing situation that they find themselves in now.

Anyway, hope you update soon. Cannot wait to see where you take this.
